Punjab sends summary for approval of 343 vacancies in LG depts

The Punjab government has submitted a summary to the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) for the approval of 343 new positions across various local government departments. The summary, prepared by the Secretary of Local Government and Community Development Punjab, requests the filling of vacant posts in administration, planning, engineering, and finance sectors.

Details of Vacancies

The summary outlines the following positions:

Administrative Sector:

20 positions for Chief Officer/Municipal Officer (Regulation), Grade 16.

Planning Sector:

77 positions, including Municipal/District Officers, Assistant Municipal Officers, and Building Inspectors, comprising 14 Grade 17 and 63 Grade 14 posts.

Financial Sector:

78 positions, including Municipal Officer (Finance), DMO (Finance), and Accountants, comprising 39 Grade 17, 4 Grade 16, and 35 Grade 14 posts.

Engineering Sector:

168 positions for Sub-Engineers, Grade 14.

Recruitment Process

The proposed recruitment will be conducted on a contractual basis under the Punjab Local Government Service (Appointment and Conditions of Service) Rules 2018. The summary has requested PPSC to expedite the advertisement process while noting that the number of vacancies may be subject to change.

Significance of the Summary

The Secretary of Local Government emphasized the importance of filling these vacancies to strengthen local government systems and improve service delivery across Punjab.

Public Response

Residents have lauded the initiative, expressing hope that timely completion of the recruitment process will enhance the performance of local governments. However, stakeholders have called for strict monitoring to ensure transparency in the hiring process.

The initiative aims to address current administrative gaps and equip local governments to better tackle challenges and serve the community effectively.
