KARACHI: Although, it’s been more than a month since the Schools Education Department (SED) has conducted interviews to post directors for high schools in each region of Sindh but Karachi is still waiting for the director of state -run higher schools, Daily Time has learnt. On the recommendation of the secretary Schools Education Department, the Sindh government has however posted directors in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and Larkana division but same post of director at the Directorate of Elementary, Secondary and Higher Secondary Schools (DESHSS), Karachi is vacant for last two years. Since the inception of the DESHSS in 2015, Mushtaq Ahmed was posted as permanent director in September 2016 but he was removed from the position within 3 months by Sindh government. After that, DESHSS is being run by the District Management Group (DMG) officers despite senior and competent officers of the SED are waiting for their posting and promotion. Earlier, Mansoor Abbas Razvi, an officer of DMG group was posted as DESHSS director in June 2016 but he was transferred from the post after a few months of the same year. The post of DESHSS director is still vacant however another DMG officer, Dr Raiz Ahmed Siddique has a look-after charge of the post but he visits his office once in a while. Recently, Secretary SED, Abdul Aziz Uqaili, interviewed some senior officers of the education department to post them as director in each region on vacant posts. Among those officers, Ghulam Rasool Keerio, an officer of Schools Administration has been posted as Director of DESHSS, MirpurKhas. Another senior officer, Razia Begum Pathan who was called for interview, also posted in Larkana on the same position. Those postings have also been notified by SED on 10 May 2017 but the department has been neglecting Karachi and a senior officer and Additional Director of DESHSS, Hamid Karim, has not been posted as director even though he has qualified in the interviews session. “There were no other competitive officers when secretary SED called interviews therefore he referred my name for directorship”, Karim said, added that DMG group officer have less seats rather than other departments therefore they are always trying to post themselves in education department just for promotion. On the other hand educationists believe that DMG officers have no experience and interest to run schools or educational institutes properly because they only spend their time to fulfill a criteria for next promotion. It is pertinent to mention here that 515 secondary, 31 higher secondary and 176 middle state-run schools are running without administrative heads for the last 2 years. The teachers of those schools are unable to resolve their problems on time inclusive lack of furniture, low enrollment, schools management committee fund, distribution of funds and transfers and posting matters ect.
