ISLAMABAD: The Commissioner and IG Police Islamabad have spent anti narcotics funds received from the US on the decoration of their offices. According to secret documents, malpractices of millions of rupees committed by Islamabad management have come to light. The management spent funds allocated for road safety on the purchase of petrol and repair of vehicles while Rs 70 million funds were to be utilised under the head of road safety. As per report Rs 130 million out of road safety funds were distributed among the employees as cash awards. The management spent Rs 11 million on decorating the commissioner’s and deputy commissioner’s offices besides spending Rs 124 million on different civil works. These funds were extended by the US for the anti narcotics campaign but the officers utilised them for decorating their offices rather than launching an awareness campaign against the narcotics menace. The report said that DSP Tajjamal Hussain received Rs 300,000 on account of house rent despite residing in an official residence. DSP Ilyas Hayat Khan, Niamatullah Khan, SP Sadiq Ali Khan and Abbas Shah are receiving house rents amounting to Rs 1.5 million despite occupying government residences. Directives have been issued to recover amount from them. The IG Police has started misusing six million rupees out of the Police Officers Welfare Fund which was set up without bringing it into the knowledge of finance ministry. Police purchased four vehicles worth Rs 40 million including a Hunda Civic 1800 CC, 63 CITRUS, five Honda cars 1800 CC and a coaster. It also purchased music instruments valuing Rs 1 million out of this fund. A house has been hired on a monthly rent of Rs 86000 in the F-11/2 sector and a payment to the tune of Rs 3.4 million has been made so far on this count.
