Backdoor channels go into action to defuse tension between PPP, PML-N

Published on: August 18, 2016 10:55 PM

ISLAMABAD: Ruling Pakistan Muslim league N established backdoor contacts again with the largest opposition party in parliament, the PPP after their announcement of agitation on roads in September, sources told Daily Times. On the other hand, the President of PPP Asif Ali Zardari has given some important messages to the PML N leadership to avoid any political confrontation in future.

PML N sources confirmed that backdoor channels were again in action but this time on a high level to defuse the tension that emanated from harsh statements of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan. This time, PML-N senior leader made a contact with the former president and sought his help in the current political situation.

Asif Ali Zardari, who is known as king of reconciliation politics, has passed on some important messages to PML N leadership and he made it clear to the prime minister that he should take steps to reduce tensions between PPP and PML N. Otherwise, it would be difficult for him to stop his party leaders to respond in a befitting way, sources told.

On this message, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took some important steps. He sent his closest and most trusted finance minister Ishaq Dar first to the opposition leader in the national assembly.

On the request of prime minister through Ishaq Dar, opposition leader

Khursheed Shah did not respond to the allegations of the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar in the assembly. Speaker national assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq also played a positive role in this and requested both Interior Minister and Khursheed Shah not to go ahead, sources said.

On this, Asif Zardari also directed his party leaders not to respond to political allegations of Chaudhry Nisar, but they were free to respond if he made personal attacks on the PPP leadership. Sources disclosed that Asif Zardari advised Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to accept the opposition’s demands on Panama leaks investigation, and advised him to be careful about the next army chief’s appointment.
