Woman cyclist Samar sparkles for Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Samar Khan has become the first woman in the world to ride cycle on 4500-meter high Biafo Glacier in the Karakoram Mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan. In an exclusive chat with Daily Times on Thursday, Samar said she cycled from Islamabad to Biafo Glacier by covering a distance of 800km and did cycling attempts on glaciers. Samar also did cycling from Islamabad to highest international border (Pakistan China border).

She had set out on a long tour from Islamabad to Skardu on July 24 and had covered more than 1000kms of distance inside fifteen days. She then trekked from Shagar Region’s town called Skooli for three days and came to Biafo Glacier. She is also the national record holder of cycling over 4693meters by covering 1000km of her tour to Khunjerab. “My future aim is to promote sports and tourism in Pakistan.” Many cyclists joined her during her ride at different stations. Samar wants to win laurels for Pakistan by participating in the Olympics and wants to achieve more records in cycling. Former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan is her hero and she wants to inspire her fellow youngsters.

Samar said that she conducted and organised many cycle rallies and tourism events in different parts of Pakistan to give message to youngsters and families to adopt such healthy activities.

Samar’s biggest aim is to bring sports revolution in the country and bring out massive talent. Samar is the founder of ‘Pace for Peace’, Two Girls Ride. She was active volunteer and ambassador of ‘Green & Clean Pakistan Islamabad. Samar was also interviewed by ‘Voice of America’. Samar has done Masters in Physics from Federal Urdu University Islamabad. She hails from Lower Dir in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Apart from cycling, Samar khan is a motivational and Tedx Speaker, a freelancer blogger and an online teacher, athlete and a certified paraglider.
