LAHORE: Chief Drug Inspector Zaka Rehman on Sunday directed officials to take action against illegal medical stores – otherwise stern action would be taken against them. Health Department’s sources said that despite sealing of scores of medical stores – which were running without pharmacist – dozens of brands of unapproved, fake and unregistered medicines of different categories were still available in the market. Sources said that 70 medical stores were sealed in Lahore, 20 in Multan, 10 in Narowal, 15 in Rahim Yar Khan, 10 in Rawalpindi and 5 in Sialkot. However, most medical stores were not only running without pharmacists but also found involved in selling unregistered brands. Unfortunately, there is no online data of prices from any pharmaceutical company to check rates of any medicine being marketed in the country. It was suggested to the government to order to all pharmaceutical companies to provide online data of drug prices to protect the rights of consumers.
