Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Shoaib Dastagir on Saturday directed all officials to resolve public complaints in a timely manner and also speed up crackdown against the criminal elements. Addressing officers at the Sahiwal Police Lines, he directed senior officers to visit and inspect police stations to improve their working, extending possible cooperation and guidance to improve their performance. He warned the officials involved in corruption, abuse of power, carelessness and misbehaviour with public to improve their attitude otherwise they will face strict departmental action under internal accountability system. The IGP ordered efficient monitoring of model police stations, Police Khidmat Marakaz and other initiatives of modern policing and also improve their working in the light of feedback from the citizens. He emphasised upon the senior officers to ensure that citizens visiting the police stations are dealt congenially and every possible attempt is made to resolve their complaint. He said that SDPOs should start crackdown against the proclaimed offenders, land grabbers and drug peddlers, and report of these actions should be shared regularly with the Central Police Office. The IGP said constabulary is the face of Punjab police as they deal with the public on roads. He said in order to improve the performance of constables, the officers should play the leadership role by giving them briefings on professional conduct, discipline and modern policing. “Appreciation by the prime minister is a matter of great honour but it has also increased our responsibilities so now we need to work with more commitment and hard work to facilitate the public and purge the society of criminal elements,” he said. On the occasion, RPO Sahiwal Humayun Bashir Tarar, DPO Sahiwal Capt (r) Muhamad Ali Zia, DPO Pakpattan Sahibzada Umer Bilal, DPO Okara Umer Saeed Malik, all regional SPs Investigation, SP Special Branch, SDPOs and SHOs were present. Upon reaching Sahiwal, the IGP was presented the salutation by an active squad of police after which he laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered fateha. At Darbar, RPO Sahiwal briefed the IGP about the performance of Sahiwal region. He said according to the policy guideline issued by the Central Police Office, police teams are endeavouring to address the public complaints and arrest the criminal elements while special heed is being paid to public dealing for change in Thana Culture. He said 1,300 officials have been successfully trained at Training Centre Sahiwal so far as per IGP’s vision and to ensure discipline every week, orderly room is also conducted.
