ISLAMABAD: Opposition leader in the National Assembly and senior Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah has said that sensitive information regarding a national security meeting was leaked at the behest of the government, and such leakages are pernicious to our national security. Khurshid Shah, who is also the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), said that the relation between Nawaz Sharif-led federal government and the military were tense, which could derail the country’s democratic system. Talking to journalists at his office in Parliament House, Khurshid Shah looked perturbed over the country’s internal political situation. He said that the sole purpose of leaking the information was to please Pakistan’s enemy that had been denigrating our brave soldiers who were sacrificing their lives for the security of the country. He said the enemies of the country used this information and unleashed a nefarious propaganda in the media against the Pakistan Army. Khurshid Shah also raised some alarming questions over the setting up of a media cell at the Prime Minister’s House using public money, and alleged that the cell allegedly bugged the meeting room at the PM’s House – a crime that the members of the cell confessed to before the media. Criticising the performance of the incumbent government, he said that Nawaz Sharif and Imran Khan were the real threats to the democratic system, as they had played no role in strengthening democracy in the country. He said the efforts were being made to derail a fragile democratic system, but he vowed his the PPP would thwart any such move.
