The duo of Mehreen Jabbar and Umera Ahmed has always produced super-hit serials.
The director and writer collaborated in the past to make “Doraha” for GEO TV, “Malal” for HUM TV and “Daam” for ARY DIGITAL, all three of which are remembered to date. While “Doraha” turned out to be an award-winning serial, “Daam” gained wide critical appreciation and “Malal” presented itself as a piece of its kind with its high quality camera-work and a progressive story breaking multiple stereotypes a decade ago.
The popular writer and the creative director have now collaborated for a web-series named ‘Aik Jhooti Love Story’. From its title, it suggests novelty, the kind of which may not have been produced from the pen of Umera Ahmed before. But Pakistanis have always had high hopes from Ahmed whose tales are rooted in the culture of Pakistan and are easy to relate with and from Mehreen Jabbar as well who has an unparalleled soft and subtle style of executing the writers’ stories.
The web-series casts Kinza Razzaq, Bilal Abbas Khan, Kiran Haq, Madiha Imam, Mariam Saleem, Furqan Qureshi, Hina Bayat, Beo Zafar Rana, Muhammed Ahmed and many others, with most of whom Mehreen Jabbar has previously worked in various projects.
While Pakistan is still taking its initial steps in the field of digital drama, a web-series falling in the hands of a progressive director like Mehreen Jabbar will hopefully turn out to be a giant leap for Pakistan, for Mehreen travels and takes her works along, exposing them at various platforms.

When it comes to stories that are modern, the kind of which we expect “AikJhooti Love Story” to be, Umera Ahmed has already proven her mettle in the area with “Malal”. Pakistanis have complete faith in her as a writer who can write on any topic effortlessly. From domestic stories like “Doraha” and “Dur e Shahwar” to tales of prostitution like “La-Haasil” and “Man o Salwa” and from religious stories like “Shehr e Zaat” and “Alif” to radical narratives like “Be-hadd”, “AikthiMarryam” and “Kankar”, Umera Ahmed has every kind of script to her name.
This time as well, it is hoped that Umera Ahmed won’t disappoint and Mehreen Jabbar won’t step back from infusing in the web-series, the charm that is solely hers. While Mohammed Ahmed, Hina Bayat, Madiha Imam and Furqan Qureshi have already worked with Jabbar, it is for the first time that we will be seeing the chocolate hero Bilal Abbas Khan and the versatile actresses Kiran Haq and Beo Rana Zafar in a Mehreen Jabbar project.
The date for the web-series’ release has not been announced yet, but it has been told by the writer’s official page on Facebook that it will be out soon and the name of the website that will stream the series will also be disclosed along.
Jabbar tells that the project is very close to her heart and incorporates hard-work done by everyone involved in the making of it, be it the actors, the producers or the people from the crew.
