Massive protest held against Dr Nimrita Kumari’s ‘killing’

Published on: September 21, 2019 3:53 AM

Members of Hindu community, civil society and residents of Bhutto leaders’ hometown, Naundero, took out a large rally on Friday from Municipal Committee Chowk, which, after marching through various roads, culminated at Allahwalla Chowk showing solidarity with the parents of mysteriously “killed” Dr Nimrita Kumari, BDS final year student of Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC), Larkana, and against unprovoked attacks on Hindu temples by mobs in Ghotki.

The protesters staged sit-in at the roundabout demanding justice for Dr. Nimrita and arrest of all accused including facilitators involved in Ghotki riots. The participants included Mukhi Lokchand, Manoj Kumar, A. D. Bhutto, Arshad Shah Rashdi, Anwar Buriro, Ghulam Hyder Narejo, Javed Bhutto, Sahab Khan Shaikh, Hafiz Mushtaque Kourejo, Maulana Abdul Qudoos Panhwar, Abdul Salam Dharejo, Latif Kertio, Choith Ram, Jai Kumar, Ahad Jamal and others. They were shouting slogans while holding large banners & placards in their hands.

While talking to newsmen they said that uncalled for attacks on temples in Ghotki were a conspiracy to launch ethnic riots in the province as the attackers had no religion and they were just mischief mongers who should be arrested immediately and brought to justice so that no such acts are repeated in future. They said that untimely death of Dr. Nimrita under mysterious conditions has created a wave of unrest across Sindh and entire province is extremely sorrowful. They said she was not a Hindu but a daughter of Sindh adding they are waiting for justice with her murder. They said in educational institutions no protection is provided to the daughters of Sindh due to which cases like Naila Rind and Dr. Nimrita continue to emerge without any proper check.

They said such incidents badly affect girls’ education in the province which need to be curbed with iron hands at once and once for all. They said such incidents also prove that these are part of conspiracies to keep girls away from getting education which must not be allowed to happen in future or else parent will be forced not to send their daughters out of homes to become literate. They said that it is a pity that we should have qualified sons and daughters but instead we are getting bodies from universities and colleges. They demanded justice for Dr. Nimrita and arrest of all accused involved in Ghotki turmoil. Mukhi Lokchand while talking to this scribe said that judicial inquiry must be conducted by a High Court Judge instead of district & sessions judge.

Members of Pakistan Pharma Trust, Islamic Jamiat-e-Tulba, students of Chandka Medical College and Bibi Aseefa Dental College also took out rallies and held demos separately in Larkana demanding justice for Dr. Nimrita.

Meanwhile, Registrar, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU) Larkana, has fired three hostel wardens Asma, Haseena and Nadia. They were appointed on fixed salary. The discontinuation letter issued to them said that they arrived late on 16th September and even did not interrupt while the body of deceased Nimrita was being shifted without any permission and your negligence has resulted in loss of evidence from the scene of the incident. Hostel provost has already directed all girl students staying at hostels 5, 6 and Marvi hostel to vacate the rooms within 48 hours are their rooms will be occupied by the administration till fresh allotment is made.

On the other hand, police have sent mobile phones of two arrested suspects Mehran Ali Abro and Ali Shan @ Ali Raza Memon to FIA for forensic examination / analysis which will be helpful in investigation of the incident.
