Pakistan has reaffirmed its support for electric vehicle manufacturing and localisation during a meeting with BYD and Mega Motor Company. The government also backed plans for charging infrastructure and skills development. The initiative could boost industrial growth, create jobs, and accelerate Pakistan’s transition to clean transportation.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met a delegation led by BYD executive Liu Xueliang and MMC Chief Executive Aly Khan. During the meeting, Aurangzeb welcomed BYD’s expanding presence in Pakistan. He said technology-driven investments remain a priority and expressed confidence in the joint venture’s contribution to economic growth.

The delegation briefed the minister on progress at BYD’s local manufacturing facility. Company representatives said construction is advancing according to schedule and outlined plans for greater localisation. They also announced efforts to expand vehicle offerings, introduce advanced charging technologies, and strengthen Pakistan’s electric vehicle ecosystem.

Meanwhile, BYD and MMC shared a long-term vision of transforming Pakistan into a regional hub for electric vehicle manufacturing and exports. The companies highlighted plans to develop charging infrastructure with local partners and train Pakistani engineers and technicians. They said these measures would support future industry growth and increase local participation.

Aurangzeb encouraged faster progress on local assembly, manufacturing, and charging networks. He noted that global demand for electric mobility continues to rise and stressed the importance of sustainable industrialisation. Both sides also discussed renewable energy opportunities and pledged continued cooperation in technology transfer, skills development, and electric mobility innovation across Pakistan.
