ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has given 16 net-metering connections to the consumers of the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad so far from where some 1.66 MW electricity is being acquired.

The spokesman said that all these connections had been granted this year. Dozens of other applications for net- metering connections were under process, he said

Giving the details of the commissioned connections, he said that these connections included 1000 KW Parliament House, 178 KW eachPakistan Engineering Council and Planning Commission, 5 KW Residence of Speaker National Assembly, 90 KW Amir Hussain (TESLA Industries), 3 KW each Rasheed Ramay, IESCO Headquarters, Muhammad Hussain, 17 KW Nabila Qureshi, 10 KW Rear Admiral (R) Mujtaba, 7 KW Farhatullah Babar, 12.2 KW Samina Tariq and 4 KW Naseer Ahmed.

Meanwhile, the IESCO Chief Executive Officer, Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar, said the net-metering was an innovative and immediate solution to the current power shortage.

He said the system offered opportunities for commercial and domestic customers to generate electricity through solar panels and sell their extra electricity to IESCO.

He said that both domestic and commercial consumers could generate 1KW to 1 MW through the net-metering system. Dr Jabbar said adopting the net-metering technology would not only help improve the efficiency of the company but also help meet the energy requirement. He said the company got an encouraging response from the consumers and 14 connections of net-metering had been energized in a short span of time.

He said the IESCO was purchasing electricity from the consumers at Rs.9.25 per unit adding that the company had purchased electricity worth Rs 2.5 million so far.

The CEO said the IESCO was the first distribution company which introduced the net-metering system in the country. He said all customers having three-phase connections could avail IESCO’s net metering facility.

Four more power thieves held: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) apprehended four electricity pilferers in various regions of the company in raids during its ongoing drive against power pilferers. The IESCO spokesman informed that four culprits were caught red handed from Chakwal Circle. He said the drive was launched on the directives of the CEO Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan.

All the culprits were found involved in power theft through “direct line” (Kunda System) and by broken security strip of the meter, he added.

He said FIRs had been lodged against power thieves under the new electricity (Amendment) Act. He said the IESCO was committed to taking stern action against the power thieves across its all five regions. He also requested its valued customers to inform about power theft on IESCO’s new “Roshni 8398 SMS Service”. He said the new “Roshni SMS Service 8398” and 118 help line were serving commendably in the entire IESCO region. This service was getting massive response from its users, he said.

He said complaints regarding tariff, temporary connection, late receiving of electricity bills, over billing and low voltage complaints could also be lodged through this service besides providing information about power theft by sending an SMS to “Roshni 8398”.
