Fed govt has failed to stabilise economy: Murtaza Wahab

Published on: May 16, 2019 11:59 PM

Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister for Information, Law and Anticorruption Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Thursday criticised the federal government, saying Prime Minister Imran Khan had completely failed to control the country’s economy.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan should admit his inability to run the affairs of country. The Pakistani currency has touched another all-time low against the dollar. During the first 10 months of the current government, the exchange rate of the dollar has risen by 31 rupees. It is the highest devolution in the country’s history,” he said in a statement.

The provincial advisor said that it was second consecutive day that dollar’s value had gone up. Prime Minister Imran Khan called an urgent meeting after the increase of two rupees in the dollar exchange rate on Wednesday. He ordered stringent measure for controlling the exchange rate and a committee was also formed in this regard.

Wahab said that it was strange that despite the efforts of the prime minister, the exchange rate of dollar had increased by six rupees in the interbank market on Thursday. “Then why was an overseeing committee formed by our prime minister? How long will the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continue its disastrous economic policies,” he said.

Barrister Murtaza Wahab said that PTI had created great confusion in the country, which had badly affected the confidence of businessmen. “A record decrease has been witnessed in stock exchange index. Investors have lost billions,” he said.

Wahab condemned the confused policy of the federal government, pointing out that it was earlier announced after successful talks with the International Monetary Fund that the dollar rate would be decided by market forces and government would have no role in this regard. “Contrary to this, a committee was formed the other day to control the flight of dollar,” he said.

The provincial advisor added that nation had become well aware of the real face of PTI, which had snatched the livelihood of people. “In the holy month of Ramazan, past governments used to announce discounts in the prices of essential commodities. However, the current government increased petroleum prices before the start of Ramazan. Now the rupee is fast losing its value. This will multiply the miseries of the people, who are already dying of inflation,” he said.
