The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday dismissed former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) member National Assembly (MNA) Sheikh Waseem Akhtar’s petition against his imprisonment. Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Asif Saeed Khosa said in his remarks that slogans were raised against judges and the judiciary, and the Lahore High Court (LHC) had already reduced the sentence from six months to one. The CJP maintained that it had become a habit to abuse the judiciary first and to apologise afterwards. The counsel for the petitioner took the stance that the plaintiff had apologised for his remarks in the past and was ready to tender an unconditional apology now as well. The apex court dismissed the petition and remarked that there was no need to interfere in the LHC’s verdict.
