To adore and exalt the occasion of Pakistan Day, the Azadi Cup Golf Tournament was held the captivating Royal Palm Golf Course here on Tuesday. It was reassuring to see over 65 golfers participate and seek honours as a citation to themselves and simultaneously a tribute to the country. As soon as the tee off had taken place, the golf competition became a furious and gutsy affair with each participating competitor trying to outdo the other. In the process, some over ardent ones lost their poise and calmness and inaccuracies in shot making wriggled in and their winning chances suffered with each poor shot. The more smart ones, however, stayed afloat and used their golf playing skills to find the direction to achievement. Notable was the performance of Faisal Sayid, in the handicap category 0-12, who turned out to be the best one in the net category, carding a net 71 and acquiring the first net position in this Azadi Cup. Another one who did impressively was Farid Malik and he succeeded in seizing the net runner-up slot with a score of net 75. In the gross section, the front line winner was Hussain Hamid through a score of gross 77. The runner-up gross position was secured by Shahid Abbas, his gross score being 82. As for the competitors seeking to emerge as the top ones in the handicap category 13 to 18 , the bright one in net section was SM Shakeel and the runner-up was Ahmed Asad. The gross winner in this handicap category was Ahmed Buksh with the runner-up position going to Imran Haider. Published in Daily Times, March 27th 2019.
