The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), on Friday, summoned Federal Railways Minister, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, to present evidence with regard to the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) contract scam on February 27 in its Rawalpindi office. Previously, the minister had claimed to possess details of the alleged corruption in the award of a contract for LNG import by the then federal petroleum minister, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. He had even claimed in February last year, that he would himself provide these details to the NAB chairman but has not submitted anything so far. The watchdog body is allowed to summon any respondents it needs by a three-member Supreme Court bench, which was headed by the then chief justice, Mian Saqib Nisar. Ever since Abbasi was elected as the prime minister in August 2017, Awami Muslim League’s chief accuses him of a multi-billion corruption scam. Published in Daily Times, February 23rd 2019.
