Russia clarified the statement of Deputy Interior Minister Igor Zubov over the Daesh movement and termed it as ‘slip of tongue’ adding that the two countries shared close ties in fighting terrorism. Russian Interior Minister Igor Zubov earlier this week said that an unidentified helicopter transported a large number of terrorist from Pakistan to Tajikstan border, near to Russian Sothern borders. Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Zakharova, in a press briefing on Thursday, termed the statement of Deputy Interior Minister as a ‘slip of the tongue’ and clarified that the minister meant to say Afghanistan instead of Pakistan. Pakistan and Tajikistan are separated by Afghanistan’s Wakhan Corridor region, she added. Earlier this week, Russian Ambassador on Afghanistan Zamir Kabulov met Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi. During the meeting the two sides discussed regional and international matters, with particular reference to Afghan peace process. The two sides were also agreed upon continuing regular consultations on the Afghan peace process and regional support. Shah Mehmood Qureshi also assured the envoy that Pakistan would continue to play its role for peace in Afghanistan.
