BERLIN: Borussia Dortmund were left reeling on Tuesday after a breathtaking goal from Jean Zimmer saw them lose 2-1 to relegation candidates Fortuna Duesseldorf in a sensational first league defeat of the season. The defeat saw Dortmund’s lead at the top of the table shrink to six points after Thorgan Hazard inspired Borussia Moenchengladbach to a 2-0 win against Nuremberg earlier in the day. Marco Reus had an early goal ruled out for offside but Dortmund were sent into shock when Dodi Lukebakio gave Duesseldorf the lead on 22 minutes. The league leaders looked helpless in their search for an equaliser before Duesseldorf delivered the next hammer blow 15 minutes later. Zimmer doubled the lead for the underdogs, blasting a 20-metre screamer into the top corner. Published in Daily Times, December 20th2018.
