Sir: The existence of old age homes in an Islamic society is a matter of shame because where Islam proclaims “heaven lies at a mother’s feet”; and father is the key to it then to leave them in their old ages is highly condemnable. Still we can’t neglect the fact that these old age homes becomes the roof on their head when they have been left alone by their own blood; on the streets to die in misery. The increasing ratio of old age homes indicates that the ratio of those unfortunate ones is also increasing who deliberately loses their paradise; prior to the increasing number of old homes still most of them are overcrowded and deprived of basic facilities people left their parents over there to live in a false hope that someday they will came to take them back to home when things would be better, they spend their golden ages away from their homes, children and dear ones taking there last breath in pain and anguish; so those unfortunate children who make an excuse of their insufficient bread and butter to pick on their expense shall know that there is no place better than home and bad times never last for long. When those parents spent their youth in raising their children by holding their finger, then why doesn’t those children hold their hands in their golden ages to make their journey towards their eternal life more easy and peaceful? Where on one side these old homes are an immense support for the helpless elderlies there on the other side it is a point to ponder that as a nation how we will survive if we leave our grounds? Just think of it not only personally but also nationally. SAIRA NIAZI Lahore Published in Daily Times, December 12th 2018.
