New research presented over the weekend at the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Latin America Conference 2018 in Lima, Peru, has found that strength training may be more effective at reducing the risk of heart disease than cardiovascular exercise such as cycling. Carried out by researchers at St. George’s University in St. George’s, Grenada, the new study set out to investigate whether static exercise, such as strength training, and dynamic exercise, such as walking or cycling, have different effects on cardiovascular health. Although it is already well known that physical activity offers many benefits for the heart and health in general, research has generally not differentiated between the different types of physical activity.
