LAHORE: The 8th Chief of the Naval Staff Amateur Golf Championship will be contested at the exquisite Defence Raya Golf and Country Club Golf Course here from November 16 to 18. Addressing a press conference here Wednesday, Commodore Naimatullah, Station Commander of Pakistan Navy, told reporters that it would be the 8th successive and uninterrupted year of the championship, and for the 8th segment of this majestic golf competition, Defence Raya Golf Course had been chosen as the playing arena. Also present on the occasion were Commander Adnan Rasool, Lt Commander Abdul Basit, Col Farhan of Defence Raya and media director Khawaja Pervaiz Saeed. “Undoubtedly, this golf course has all the components for holding a prestigious national championship and that includes remarkable fairways, sterling greens and commendable environment and top of the line allied facilities.” Naimatullah also highlighted that Pakistan Navy and the sponsors were striving to make sure that all aspects of the championship were handled and executed in an outstanding manner. “The championship is open for top golf amateurs of the country and only players with a handicap of 12 and below are eligible to participate.” Speaking on the occasion, Pervaiz Saeed said that for the amateur golf players of Pakistan, this was an opportunity whereby they could apply their golfing skills in a way that the scores they attain help them get noticed at the national level and subsequently represent the country in international competitions. A total of 240 competitors are taking part in this championship. Notable national players in line for honors are Wazir Ali, Salman Jehangir; Ahmed Zafar Hayat, Robin Bagh, Qasim Ali Khan, Mohsen Zafar (all from Lahore Gymkhana). Ahmed Baig, Nadeem Aslam, M Saqib, Ahmed Kayani and Damil Ataullah (all from Garrison Golf Club). Fakhar Imam, Zunair Aleem Khan, Sardar Murad, Murad A Khan, Taimoor Shabbir, Abbas Ali Shah, Ahmed Rafi (all from Defence Raya).
