A delegation of Traders Welfare Association (TWA), F-6 Super Market led by TWA President Shahzad Shabir Abbasi visited the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ICCI) and exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. TWA General Secretary Muhammad Hussain and others were also in the delegation. Addressing the delegation, ICCI President Ahmed Hassan Mughal said that Finance Minister Asad Umar during his election campaign had assured the traders of Islamabad that if Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf won the elections, he would try for promulgation of a new rent control act in Islamabad during the first 100 days of his government. He urged that the finance minister should honour his assurance as due to lack of rent laws, rent disputes and forced evictions of traders from shops were on the rise. He said that super markets were the face of Islamabad and needed urgent attention of Capital Development Authority (CDA) for improved development. He further said that due to its key location, foreign diplomats, foreign visitors and other dignitaries frequently visited this market for shopping. He stressed upon the CDA to focus on resolving key issues of super markets including provision of filtration plant, restoration of all street lights and redesigning of car parking for expansion to facilitate business activities. He assured that ICCI would fully cooperate with TWA Super Market in its endeavours aimed at resolving the major issues of traders of the area. ICCI Senior Vice President Rafat Farid and ICCI Vice President Iftikhar Anwar Sethi said that most of the issues of traders were related to CDA and ICCI was making efforts to arrange a meeting with chairman in near future to discuss the issues of business community for finding out their optimum solutions. Speaking at the occasion, TWA President Shahzad Shabir Abbasi and Muhammad Hussain highlighted various issues of their market. They said that due to the absence of rent control act, traders were feeling insecure and ICCI should cooperate in urgent resolution of this issue. They said that there was no filtration plant in the market due to which the traders and residents of the area were deprived of clean drinking water. They said the current car parking was insufficient and urged that CDA should redesign the parking to expand it and arrange its re-carpeting. They said CDA should restore all street lights in super markets to curb the incidents of thefts and other problems. They assured that TWA Super Market would fully support ICCI in its efforts for resolving the key issues of the local business community. Published in Daily Times, October 21st 2018.
