The Supreme Court was informed on Tuesday that the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had issued notices to 895 individuals in foreign properties case. The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, was also told that 642 affidavits had been obtained out of 895 notices dispatched, inquiring about foreign properties. Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan said that of these 642 affidavits, 185 were from Punjab, 390 from Sindh, 52 from Islamabad, 4 from Balochistan and 17 from Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Further, the court was informed that some individuals claimed that they disclosed their properties recently in the amnesty scheme, some were under probe by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and others disowned properties. The attorney general has sought two weeks from the court to initiate further proceedings to recover money from owners of foreign properties obtained with illegally amassed wealth. The chief justice said that the process should be sped up and adjourned the hearing till October 25. Last month, the SC directed FIA to present a report pertaining to the legality of 2,700 properties acquired by Pakistanis in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
