Reportedly, the investigation officer presiding over the case presented the challan of the liquor bottle case to the judicial magistrate in the city courts on Tuesday. According to the submitted challan, three bottles were discovered from the hospital room of Sharjeel Inam Memon and one of the bottles contained two inches of alcohol. According to the investigation officer, three suspects namely Shakir Din, Mushtaq Ali and Muhammad Jam had already confessed to tempering with the evidence. The three men were released on bail afterwards. Reportedly, Shakir Din also revealed during the investigation process that he had thrown the liquor bottles in the dust bin right after the raid on Inam’s hospital room which was declared ‘sub-jail’. The investigation officer further revealed that the CCTV footage obtained from the hospital showed the three men tempering with the evidence found in Inam’s room. The bottles were discovered when the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar paid a surprise visit to the hospital room of Sharjeel Inam Memon who was admitted in Dr Ziauddin Hospital on account of being unwell. According to the CJP, imported liquor, drugs and cigarettes were found from Inam’s room. Following the raid, Sharjeel’s blood samples were drawn and his hospital room sealed. The PPP leader was also sent to Karachi Central Prison. The PPP leadership has claimed that the bottles contained honey and olive oil. The PPP lawmaker however did not comment on the issue and said that it was his personnel matter and not the party’s in response to a question by a media representative. Previously, on September 7 jail authorities submitted a report regarding alcohol bottles recovered from the PPP parliamentarian’s room. According to Deputy Inspector General Prisons department, Nasir Aftab the report was split into two parts, the first being regarding tempering or elimination of evidence and the second being regarding the negligence of jail staff and blood samples of the parliamentarian which were later sent to labs for testing.
