DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The National Green Day was observed as part of the Prime Minister’s Green Pakistan Programme here on Thursday. Commissioner Dr Akhtar Nazir Warriach inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling along with the Divisional Forest Officer in his office. Commissioner said that this programme would help tackle the problems being faced in wake of climate change and would lead to providing a healthy environment to the people. He also urged the residents of the district to plant trees or saplings in their homes and consider them as their asset, adding that trees combat climate change, ensure clean air, provide oxygen and conserve energy. He said it was not the responsibility of the government only, but joint efforts were needed to control pollution and prevent possible harm to the environment in the area.
