As many as 52 ghost schools of Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) were uncovered across the province. Reportedly, around Rs 50 million (mn) had been allocated for these schools by SEF which is a public-private partnership (PPP) institution providing funds to schools in areas where there are no government educational institutions. The districts where SEF’s ghost schools have been exposed included Larkana, Hyderabad, Dadu, Tharparkar, Sanghar and Mirpurkhas. These ghost schools were under supervision of various non-governmental organisations and private sector, according to documents. In addition, funds which had been released for these schools had been used up by relevant stakeholders and not a penny had been spent on the welfare of these schools. SEF Managing Director, Naheed Durrani said that she had written letters to anti-corruption department for taking action against organisers of these schools. She said that she had filed a request for recovery of funds as well. Published in Daily Times, September 8th 2018.
