Nation pays homage to Fatima Surraya Bajia on 88th birthday

Published on: September 1, 2018 9:39 AM

Pakistan observes 88th birthday of acclaimed novelist and playwright Fatima Surraya Bajia today.

Fatima, the sister of poet Anwar Maqsood, was born in Hyderabad in September 1930, while she migrated to Pakistan along with her family after partition.

Bajia, despite not having a proper degree, mastered Arabic, Persian, English and Urdu literature, and remains to date on of the most known names in the country. She did so while looking after her younger siblings.

She has written numerous well-known drama serials including Aroosa, Shama, Ana, Zeenat, Tareekh-o-Tamseel, Anarkali and Babar among many others.

The literary legend was bestowed with numerous awards for her remarkable works including Pride of Performance and Hilal-e-Imtiaz, which she received in 2012.

Google has also honoured Bajia on her birthday with a doodle dedicated to one of the country’s very best.
