Sir: Regretfully, Pakistan is one of those countries who have the highest rate of child brides in the world. According to a UNICEF report, three percent girls under the age of 15, and 27 percent girls under the age of 18 become the victim of child marriages, even though this practice is strictly against the laws of the country. However, nothing much is being done to put a stop to this disturbing practice and people continue to flaunt these laws as if they mean nothing. I urge the government to take some strong action to stop cruel people, especially such deplorable parents who are content with destroying the lives of young girls. I also ask that the authorities clamp down on child marriages once and for all, in order to protect our future generations. SOODA M AKRAM Kech Published in Daily Times, August 30th 2018.
