LAHORE: Punjab Minister for Health Dr Jawad Sajid Khan has urged the young doctors to discharge their duties in district as well as tehsil headquarters hospitals with a spirit of serving the ailing humanity. He said that field experience not only helps a doctor to become a good clinician but also provides quality health opportunities to the people at local level resulting in reducing the patient flow towards teaching hospitals. He stated this while talking to a delegation of Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Monday. Headed by Dr Maroof Wains, the delegation included Dr Mahmoodul Hassan, Dr Salman Haseeb, Dr Shoaib Niazi, Dr Usman, Dr Qasim, Dr Umar and other office-bearers. The YDA delegation apprised the minister regarding their reservations on the central induction policy for post graduate trainee doctors. They also requested to enforce security laws in the hospitals to control the violence against the doctors and other staff. The delegation also requested that the FIRs registered against the doctors in a sad incident in Gynea department of Services Hospital a few months back in which an attendant of a patient died, should be withdrawn as the doctors were not involved in this case. The YDA delegation demanded that the seats in different specialties for PG doctors also be increased. While talking to the delegation, the health minister revealed that legislation for the security of the hospitals was the prerogative of the elected government however, as caretaker health minister, he would prepare recommendations to introduce reforms in the hospitals and to resolve the problems of young doctors for the guidance of the coming government. Health Minister Dr Jawad Sajid Khan further said that recommendations would also be presented to the concerned admission committee to enhance the seats in different specialties according to the requirement in the light of proposals given by the young doctors.
