Published on: June 25, 2018 9:54 PM

LARKANA:  The recently posted Larkana Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Javed Ahmed Riaz said on Monday that they were preparing a plan to hold free, fair and transparent upcoming general elections on July 25.

While talking to media persons at a local press club, the DIGP along with newly posted Larkana SSP Shabir Ahmed Sethar said that to avoid any unwanted event, they were planning to devise a proper plan for general election.

He said meetings are being held with all the Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) of five districts of Larkana division, along with candidates, who will contest the upcoming general election to maintain peace and tranquility prior and on the election day. The DIG further said that about 5,000 policemen will be assigned the duty to provide security in Larkana.

“Homework for elections is underway and we will try to make elections more transparent than 2008 and 2013,” he said, adding that Larkana is an important city and politically, this area has very much importance and Larkana district is very sensitive regarding security.

He said that police will try to remain impartial during the whole election process. The DIGP said that if any complaint is received against any SHO of any police station or any other police officer, strict action will be taken against him under the prevailing rules.

Javed Ahmed said that when he took over, 25 people came to meet him on the very first day, most of them were weeping while narrating their woes adding that hearing their issues had an emotional impact on him.

He said he has directed all the SSPs to resolve issues confronted by the poor masses. He said that a vigilant eye is also being kept over Sindh-Balochistan border.

Responding to question, SSP Shabir Sethar replied that as many as 60 polling stations are very sensitive and 140 sensitive in entire Larkana district where more cops will be deployed for security purposes. He said directions have been issued to provide maximum security to all the candidates. SSP undertook to protect wealth and lives of the people.
