LARKANA: The Larkana Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Tanveer Tunio on Monday issued directives to launch a crackdown against beggars.
Reportedly, the police arrested several beggars and lodged First Information Reports (FIRs) against them.
While talking to the media, the beggars said that they could not find work to support their families, and therefore they earned their daily livelihood by begging on roads.
“Instead of arresting criminals who had committed heinous crimes, the police officers wasted their energy to arrest those who lived below poverty line. The handcuffed beggars appealed the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and the caretaker government to take notice of the police action against them and order their release from police detention.
The SSP Tunio ordered all station house officers of Larkana district to take a stern action against beggars in their respective jurisdictions and arrest them under the Beggary Act.
