Trump unveils luxury Air Force One jet

Published on: June 20, 2026 7:29 PM

US President Donald Trump has unveiled a newly converted Air Force One aircraft, describing it as a “flying White House.” The jet, formerly owned by Qatar, has been refurbished from a Boeing 747 into a temporary presidential aircraft. The move comes as Boeing-delivered replacements face delays until 2028.

Trump presented the aircraft at Joint Base Andrews, highlighting its upgraded design and luxury interior. He said the plane reflects American prestige and will serve as a bridge until new presidential jets are delivered. The aircraft features a redesigned exterior with navy blue and red accents along with a large US flag on the tail.

According to the administration, the jet was formally accepted last year and modified to meet presidential security standards. Officials said the aircraft retains much of its original interior layout but includes necessary security upgrades. The Air Force estimated the modification cost at under $400 million.

Trump said he plans to use the aircraft for upcoming international travel, including a NATO summit in Turkey and future visits to Asia. He also announced plans for a flyover during US Independence Day celebrations. The president described the aircraft as unmatched in luxury and symbolic of US strength.

The decision to accept the Qatari aircraft has previously raised ethical and legal questions due to its origin as a foreign government gift. However, officials say the plane will serve temporarily until Boeing’s VC-25B fleet becomes operational. The older presidential aircraft will remain in service until the new fleet is fully delivered.
