KHAIRPUR: The Shah Abdul Latif University Teachers Association (SALUTA) office bearers on Saturday reemphasised the aims and objectives of their struggle. In a press statement, Dr Amir Chandio, Dr Ghulam Ali Mallah, Dr Hisam Shaikh, Dr Masiullah Jatoi, Ahmed Ali Memon and others said that SALUTA was not against any individual, however aims to resolve critical issues faced by the faculty members. They alleged that an agreement was achieved during a meeting between SALUTA and the university administration, but it was later ruptured by the administration. They further alleged that the Vice-Chancellor observed financial and administrative corruption in various departments of the university, and a committee was constituted. However, no meeting has been convened since then. Importantly, the SALUTA reiterated their demand to oust the registrar, who occupied his post ‘illegally’ after a notification of Sindh Universities’ Amendment Act 2018. Dr Chandio and Dr Mallah appreciated that a less qualified teacher education in-charge was removed from his post. They further demanded to appoint senior and PhD holders at the department of Islamic Studies for the validity of MPhil program and suggested Vice-Chancellor to appoint directorates of the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC) and the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) under the guidelines of Higher Education Commission (HEC). They said that the administration has been interrupting and hindering to organise a seminar entitled ‘Corruption: A Cancer for Universities’ on June 3, 2018 in which renowned educationists and representatives of many notable organisations are expected to participate.
