Lean, beautiful and innocent, Mahira Khan has been making headlines ever since the announcement of her representing Pakistan at Festival De Cannes was made. The L’Oreal Paris Pakistan girl is in Cannes as we speak, dressed to perfection in the finest of designer wear, making heads turn with her innocent smile, her firm poise and the excitement which is evident on her face. With a girl-next-door image she exuded during her VJ-ing days, to being sky rocketed to fame post her stunt with TV and now becoming a global star, propelling to the heights of rubbing shoulders with Hollywood A-listers such as Jane Fonda, Mahira Khan has truly arrived. As much as the entire nation is rooting for her, there have been negative comments from some celebrities as well. However, Khan should care less. She has slowly cemented herself at the biggest superstar of the country and a complete fashion icon. There have also been mixed reviews on her choice of outfits. Some say, she has played it safe. Others say, she should’ve opted for more drama, more statement. Some compared her looks to that of a lawn shoot. We care less. The damsel wore some of the most prominent designers from both her home country and the West. To start off, Khan wore a stunning grey jumpsuit, paired with a digital printed floral blue coat. The outfit was by Elan. She completed her look with hair pulled back in a bun, with minimum accessories and minimal makeup. In her next outfit, Khan was seen wearing a navy blue skirt, paired with a yellow silk top and a white belt. The outfit was by Solace London, paired with red and black stilettos by Christian Louboutin. Again, her choice of makeup was bare, with only statement chandelier earrings. Both these looks vyed for attention. However, it was her third look that stole the show, in my opinion. She opted for a silk and net Leonard Paris pantsuit – white and feminine with pastel designs. I absolutely loved her Caprice Decadent Bohemian studs. Also, her gelled back hair let her outfit do all the talking. Khan channeled her inner desi diva while opting for a sexy and blingy Menahel & Mehreen sari in beige, along with a spaghetti strap choli adorned with white embellishments. Khan wrote on her Instagram how she loved the “khajuri choti” paired with her look. Another subtle look carried by Khan at Cannes was a romantic and feminine off shoulder chiffon dress by Blumarine. The dress had delicate floral prints, floaty volumes and exuded a garden-like feel with an oriental ting. We have seen Australian actress Karen Pang flaunting the same outfit at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards last month. This outfit is from Blumarine’s Spring/Summer 2018 Collection. And then came a casual look with sky blue denims and a white turtleneck. Khan looked comfortable and cool, mentioning on her Instagram how she was wearing her own heels with this one. It was only when Khan wore an Alberta Ferretti strapless black taffeta gown for the screening of the film ‘Black Klansman’, that social media went berserk over how stunning the brilliant actress looked. And last but not the least, Khan’s pastel mauve Maison Yeya outfit at Cannes depicted the real personality of the actress – delicate, noticeable, and truly distinct. The actress is currently busy with interviews, spending time with Bollywood biggie Sonam Kapoor and dishing out more outfits. Published in Daily Times, May 17th 2018.
