Sir: It is a bitter truth that in Pakistan, private schools are only in business to make a profit by charging exorbitant monthly fees. The growing middle class which does not want to send its children to government schools is the group that is most affected by this greed. There are institutes that charge over Rs 20,000 per month as tuition fees. Parents who are willing to go to every extent to give their children the best education, often run out of their entire salary clearing the school dues. Private school owners need to understand that education is not a service industry and students are not clients. Education is a system that helps students develop critical skills so they can function in society. It is time to work for the improvement of the education sector, rather than use how it has been neglected for profit. SAMAN BASHIR Karachi Published in Daily Times, May 15th 2018.
