ISLAMABAD: MNA Khusro Bakhtiar on Wednesday explained that ethnicity was not the basis of their demand for a separate Southern Punjab province. MNA Bakhtiar joined the PTI on Thursday. He said Imran had promised a separate South Punjab province which was the demand of his group Junoobi Punjab Suba Mahaaz (JPSM). “On April 29, under the shadow of Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore, Imran Khan promised to make a separate South Punjab province.” He added. While speaking to a private channel’s talk show the MNA said that they demanded a new Southern Punjab province and not a Saraiki province. “We never demand for a new province on an ethnic basis, and we can withdraw our demand if there is any hint of ethnic prejudice” he said. Bakhtiar stated, “People of South Punjab do not support PML-N anymore.” However, Tariq Fazal Chaudhry of PML-N said that the matter of a new province was not as simple as it seemed to be. Moreover, Chaudhry said, “What is being depicted is different from reality.” “Why didn’t they raise their voice when they were in the Cabinet?” he questioned. The PML-N leader notified the opposition to stop using the people of South Punjab for their own benefits. The decision should only be of the inhabitants of the province. They are free to choose their party, stated Chaudhry. Imran khan said on an occasion that it was difficult to administer big units; this is the reason behind demanding a separate province. “A separate province is not enough and we will form a committee to solve South Punjab’s issues,” the PTI chief imran khan had promised earlier today.
