HYDERABAD: The Sindh Community Foundation (SCF), a nonprofit organisation, inaugurated a digital solar based science laboratory in Government Girls High School (GGHS) Shaikh Bhirkio, a remote rural area of Tando Muhammad Khan, a district in the southern part of Sindh province. The school has 45 girls, who were delighted and confident while participating at the ceremony as the establishment of a science laboratory aims to improve their knowledge of science. The laboratory contains scientific equipments to perform experiments of biology, physics and chemistry. Besides, furniture including tables and shelves, solar-based fans, sound system etc was installed. SCF chief Javed Hussain addressed the participants of the ceremony and said that science education is an integral part of education. He urged to establish more programs to promote science education. He stated that learning score of female students has been poor in the rural areas due to non-availability of science laboratory, equipment and modern teaching methods. He revealed that eight more science labs would be installed in the girls’ schools. “We need to initiate a nutritional support for girls by arranging their lunch at the schools,” he said. Shahida, a girl of 10th grade, expressed happiness over the establishment of science lab at her school. “We were studying theories only, but now practical would allow us to enhance our understanding of science,” she remarked. The school teacher, Moomal Talpur, who attended four-day training on Inquiry Based Science Education, said that they had acquired new methods of teaching to deliver lessons to the students of science using digital tools and techniques.
