Videos of protest against Bahria Town management have gone viral on social media on Tuesday. Protestors can be seen chanting slogans against the chairman Bahria Town Malik Riaz, they demand the allocation of plots that they have already paid for in advance. Bahria Town has been in hot waters since a verdict by the Supreme Court that bars Bahria Town from selling plots in Karachi. The Supreme Court labelled the allotment of land to Bahria Town illegal, and has prevented the developer from selling commercial or residential land in Karachi. The court held Bahria Town responsible for encroachment on forest land in the Takht Pari area near Islamabad. The issue raised in the Takht Pari case was that Bahria Town had encroached upon 1,170 kanals of forest land, while the forest department had encroached on an area measuring 765 kanals of Bahria Town. However, the court struck down this mutual encroachment deal, deeming it illegal and of no effect. In a third order issued the same day, the Supreme Court also struck a death blow to the New Murree Development Scheme, which had been roundly criticised by environment protection agencies for endangering the forests and land around Islamabad.
