Labour Day observed in Shikarpur

Published on: May 2, 2018 2:11 AM

SHIKARPUR: Many political parties, social activists and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) on Tuesday carried out rallies, to express solidarity with labourers on the eve of International Labour Day, which culminated at Lakhi Dar clock tower in the city of Shikarpur.

The speakers said that May 1 reminds us of a remarkable and unforgettable struggle and sacrifices rendered by the labourers of Chicago.

Labour Day is observed annually on May 1 to honour the martyrs of Chicago, who sacrificed their lives during the fight for fundamental rights in the year 1886.

The speakers outlined the issues being faced by the labourers in Pakistan. They said that labourers were not able to afford quality education, health facilities and healthy food for their families.

“The government needs to take effective measures for the condition of labourers to improve. Labourers deserve a sigh of relief while they attain a status of “Spine of Pakistan” Their fundamental rights must be secured,” they asserted.
