KARACHI: After a break of 19 years, first part of units census under sixth National Census 2017 process in the country including Karachi will start today . Around Rs 13 billion would be spent for 37 days activity in the country, spokesman of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) revealed. In Karachi around Rs 1.5 billion will be spent on the census process and unit census process would continue for three days.It’s the first time in country’s history; members of trans-gender would also be included in census and would be registered in separate columns given in the census forms.The number of toilets of every household would also be written in the census forms. National Identity Cards are not made mandatory. Muslim, Hindu, Christian and Ahmadi’s will be registered separately while a column for members of schedule caste is also provided in the census form.A specially constituted vigilance committee would keep an eye on the practice of census officials in order to rectify any error in filling of the forms. Vacant houses, shops and other constructed places would also be considered in the census.President Mamnoon Hussain will sign ‘Sheen-Urdu’ on State Guest House to declare open the process.Zubair Ahmad, Governor Sindh in Karachi will put same mark on the Governor House while Murad Ali Shah will write the same Urdu word on Chief Minster House. More than 20,000 Army men would escort 7,224 teams comprising 3 census men each during the census process. The Rangers and police personnel have also been deputed in sensitive areas to provide security besides to thwart any miscreant activity on the spot, informed Commissioner Karachi. On Tuesday, Army personnel after taking charge inspected sensitive places besides transported census material to 365 charged areas in the city.
