PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtonkhwa inspector general of police Salahuddin Mehsud said on Monday that multiple bomb-proof check posts had been inaugurated in the province at a cost of Rs800 million. The provincial police chief said 31 check posts had been set up at entrance and exit points connecting KP to the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) to prevent foreigners and militants to move between the two regions. The IG further stated that the police would recruit a minimum of 800 new officers to man the checkposts. The old stations will be renovated and rebuilt. A watchtower is soon to be installed at Peshawar Airport which will further improve Airport security. IG Mehsud said KP would very soon surpass other provinces in terms of security measures implemented in the province. Around 8,000 cameras would be installed around the city to monitor movement to prevent any untoward incidents, and the government would very soon allot motorcycles for the special command unit. According to reports, these checkpoints will be converted into fully functional police stations after the merger of Fata in KPK. Published in Daily Times, March 20th 2018.
