KHAIRPUR: Five people, including two women and a child, were shot dead for ‘honour’ in two separate incidents on Friday night. Naushehroferoze SHO Abdul Munam Larik said that accused Hassan Mari shot his cousin, Seema Mari, and Molvi Muhammad Saleem Phul at Allah Bux Mari near Naushehroferoze for honour. The accused was arrested by the Police and further probe was underway. Meanwhile, in another incident held in Tando Mir Ali in the jurisdiction of Pir Wasan police station, two suspects Akber Ali and Zahid Ali fired upon their sister, Nazia Kausar, her nine-month-old daughter, Tanzela, and the servant Irshad Ali, at their house. All the victims died on the spot. Upon receiving information, police reached the scene and took the bodies into custody. Police claimed to have arrested both the accused, along with used weapons and registered a case against the arrested accused.The cause of murder is said to be honour. The brother suspected Nazia to be involved in an illicit relationship with the servant. Police did register the case against the arrested accused and is investigating further. Despite the new law, which sentences the culprit to a minimum of twelve-and-a-half years, Pakistan still faces immense problems with the menace of honour killing. According to a survey, around 15,222 victims (men and women) have been killed for ‘honour’ in Pakistan during the period of 2004-2016.
