LAHORE: More than 86 percent piling work has been completed for construction of an underground station for Lahore Orange Line Metro Train (OLMT) near General Post Office at The Mall, and all efforts are being made for completing this work by the end of next month. OLMT Steering Committee Chairman Khawaja Ahmad Hassan said this after reviewing the pace and quality of work at this site on Sunday. He was accompanied by Deputy Project Director Engineer Muhammad Asad and Habib Construction Services CEO Shahid Saleem. Hassan said that spread over an area of 22 kanals, the Central Station of OLMT had been renamed as GPO Station. Piling work for construction of underground station along the GPO is underway. Work near the Supreme Court Registry and Saint Andrew’s Church has also been successfully completed. Soon work will start at Mouj Derya’s tomb for completing construction of 1.7 kilometers long underground track for the train in the area. He said that a total of 26 stations were being constructed along the 27 kilometres long track where the OLMT passed through the densely populated and commercial areas of the city. As many as 24 stations are being constructed at a height of 40 feet from the ground while the remaining two were being on ‘cut and cover’ basis, he added. Published in Daily Times, February 5th 2018.
