Sir: The famous actor, anchor and journalist Sajid Hassan had to suffer from painful infections on his head after he went through hair transplant. He shared a video on social media to raise awareness and dissuade people from getting potentially harmful transplants. Speaking in the video, Hassan recounts his experience which took place two months ago. According to him, the doctor insisted that he should undergo hair transplant surgery because of his baldness. The doctor was allegedly unaware of the prerequisite medical tests and some other measures that are taken before such transplants. As a result, the surgery went horribly wrong. The actor is not suffering from worse infections on his head with an open injury. The video on social media was posted with warning about graphic content. Sajid lamented his decision for trusting the wrong doctor who almost killed him. The award-winning actor urged people to be aware of such doctors in order to avoid such terrible fate and raise their voice so that the doctor responsible for this could be held accountable. Beware of other “specialists” who are just making money by putting people’s lives at risk. Also, the role that false advertising plays is undeniable. There should be a proper mechanism to identify and nab the wrong and fake doctors. Clinics spend millions of dollars each year on deliberately misleading and deceptive advertising. Doctors are supposed to save lives. Please pray for Sajid Hassan and so many other victims of such doctors. MAZIM M ARIF Karachi Published in Daily Times, February 5th 2018.
