COAS terms Quetta’s church attack “attempt to create religious cleavages”

Published on: December 17, 2017 5:45 PM

LAHORE: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa has condemned the terrorist attack on a church in Quetta saying the attack was “an attempt to cloud Christmas celebrations and create religious cleavages”.

Director General (DG) Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor on Sunday took on twitter to condemn the terrorist attack on the Quetta’s Bethel Memorial Church, which claimed the lives of at least eight people and left 44 injured.

COAS also praised the “effective response” of the law enforcement agencies, said the tweet.

“Quetta church attack targeting our brotherly Christian Pakistanis is an attempt to cloud Christmas celebrations / create religious cleavages. Effective response by LEAs is commendable. We stay united and steadfast to respond against such heinous attempts” COAS.

— DG ISPR (@OfficialDGISPR) December 17, 2017

President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi have also condemned the attack.

In his statement, the president stated that such cowardly attacks would not be able to shake the nation’s resolve to fight terrorism.

Talking to media, Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the enemies of Pakistan wanted to spread chaos in the country. He said that Islam preached respect for the worship places of all the religions and reiterated that protection of the religious freedom of the minorities was everyone’s duty. He also vowed to continue the war on terror till its logical end.
