Sir: The Islamabad High Court has banned TV anchor and game show host Amir Liaqat from appearing on television until further notice. I for one applaud this step. Liaqat is an agent of chaos and disharmony. If burning this country to a cinder would increase his TV ratings, Liaqat would start buying kerosene by the gallons and matches by the billions. Following the APS massacre, Liaqat invited guests to his show who blamed terrorism in Pakistan as a conspiracy by a certain marginalised minority community. Instead of trying to correct his guest, or even remaining neutral, Liaqat backed the guest up with his own inflammatory statements. Two days later a man from the minority community had been shot dead. I have no doubt that it was Amir Liaqat’s TV show where the perpetrators became inspired to murder the innocent man. Furthermore, this wasn’t the last or first time Liaqat engaged in hate speech. Liaqat also enjoys humiliating and embarrassing audience members on his shows. He routinely makes people partake in undignified acts for petty prizes like motorbikes, fridges and cell phones. In my opinion, this makes Liaqat’s shows more vulgar than actual pornography. Personally I hope he remains banned from the air for life. MURTAZA HASSAN Lahore
