Students committing suicide

Published on: December 16, 2017 12:52 AM

Sir: Cases of suicide seem to be increasing across the globe. Similarly, Pakistan is one of those countries where we have been witnessing a rising number of suicide cases for a long period. Unfortunately, it is mostly students who are taking part in this negative step. University students are mostly found depressed due to academic pressure which often become unbearable.

Every semester has multiple quizzes, presentations, vivas and many more to make some students feel overwhelmed. The pressure keeps building inside the students and there comes a point when he or she thinks it is all over and they quit. The recent suicides in Islamabad and Lahore are the latest examples of pressurisation of the students. Thus, there should be some sorts of brainstorming from the university authorities to think of the eradication of the sources of depression. Showing them the practical symptoms of the pressure which can be harmful for them in future and making them aware the tactics of dealing with them will prove helpful for the students.
