LAHORE: In its highly anticipated verdict, Supreme Court on Friday rejected PML-N leader Hanif Abbasi’s petition against PTI chief Imran Khan.
Declaring the offshore company, in this case, was not necessary, said the SC decision. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said that Khan was not liable to declare Niazi Services Ltd in his 2013 nomination papers as he was not a shareholder, adding that he submitted all the information asked of him
The verdict observed that ‘Imran Khan was qualified enough to be a lawmaker’. It was also directed that the issue of foreign funding should be handled by the election commission.
‘Jahangir Tareen admitted to his crime’
Disqualifying PTI secretary general Jahangir Tareen, the judgment stated that he pleaded guilty to insider trading. He stands disqualified, according to the Supreme Court judgment.
The decision said that Jahangir Tareen admitted to his crime and also paid the fine imposed by SECP in 2008. The allegations against Jahangir Tareen have been deemed fit for hearing.
According to the short verdict, Tareen was disqualified on the basis of article 62-1-F of the constitution as he was found involved in insider trading scandal as well as for concealing his offshore firms.

The Supreme Court is announcing its verdict in the disqualification case against Imran Khan and secretary general Jahangir Tareen.
The three-member bench had reserved the verdict against the two PTI leaders on November 14. The decision was expected to be announced at 2pm today but took around an hour-and-a-half’s delay.
