LAHORE: Over 300 rebels, 17 commanders among them, from banned outfits on Saturday surrendered before the state in Balochistan in an event attended by Balochistan Chief Minister (CM) Sanaullah Zehri, Commander Southern Commander Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa and various other high officials. Addressing the ceremony, the chief minister said that the people trying to sabotage the peace in the country will be dealt with iron hands but to the former rebel militants, Zehri said that they will be treated well since they will no longer be used by the enemies for their vested interests. “You will be respected like other citizens of Pakistan. The government will fight for your rights, provide you financial assistance, and ensure your children’s education,” he said to the surrendering rebel militants. Earlier this year, 22 militants had surrendered according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) department of Pakistan army. 14 others had laid down their arms on February 22 as well along with key militant commander Kafeel Mengal.
