NDMA honours Chinese firm for infrastructure safety contributions

Published on: July 25, 2026 4:33 AM

A Chinese engineering technology company was awarded a medal by Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in recognition of its longstanding contributions to infrastructure disaster prevention and bilateral scientific cooperation, during the 2026 China-Pakistan Bilateral Strategic Seminar on the Construction of China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention of Major Infrastructures, held at Southeast University in Nanjing.

The China-Pakistan Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Smart Disaster Prevention of Major Infrastructures is a premier national-level platform for international science and technology cooperation, approved by China’s Ministry of Science and Technology and developed in alignment with the standards of key national laboratories. The joint laboratory focuses on addressing critical challenges in infrastructure safety, disaster resilience, and smart monitoring technologies, serving as a hub for collaborative research, talent development, and technology transfer under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the “Belt and Road” Initiative.

During the seminar, Muhammad Tanveer Piracha, Executive Director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) under Pakistan’s NDMA, presented the NDMA medal to Li Jinbao, Chairman of Jiangsu Southeast Special Engineering & Technology Co., Ltd., on behalf of the Pakistani side. The company, a co-organizer of the seminar and one of the founding members of the joint laboratory, was recognized for its outstanding contributions to Sino-Pak cooperation in infrastructure disaster prevention, its support for strengthening Pakistan’s disaster management system and its active role in advancing bilateral scientific and technological innovation, CEN reported .

Leveraging its deep collaborative innovation advantages with academic institutions, the company has jointly developed core technology systems with the joint laboratory, including multi-source data fusion settlement monitoring and coordinated settlement energy flow regulation. These technologies precisely addressed critical industry challenges such as uneven settlement of high-rise buildings and seismic vulnerability of residential structures. A number of these technological achievements have already been applied in infrastructure disaster prevention and renovation projects in both China and Pakistan, demonstrating significant practical outcomes.

It has also established a special research fund focused on tackling frontier technologies to address disaster prevention pain points in China-Pakistan infrastructure projects. In 2025, under the coordination of the joint laboratory, the company conducted multiple field research and technical exchange missions to Pakistan, visiting Pakistani universities, research bases, and infrastructure project sites, building a regular and long-term channel for China-Pakistan scientific and technological cooperation.
